Flight Cancellations
Flight Cancellations
Q: When we will we know if you’ve cancelled our scheduled flight?
A: We generally will notify you of a flight cancellation by the following schedule
AM / SUNRISE FLIGHT - About 1 1/2 to 2 hours before sunrise
PM / SUNSET FLIGHT - By 1PM the day of the flight.
Q: How will we be notified of a flight cancellation?
A: AM / SUNRISE FLIGHT - For morning flights, WE WILL NOT CALL YOU IF THE FLIGHT IS CANCELLED. For the AM Flight, we call to wake you up for the flight if the weather is safe for flight. IF THE WEATHER IS NOT SAFE FOR A FLIGHT... WE WILL NOT CALL. It never made sense to call up a guest, wake them up and then tell them to go back to sleep because the flight is cancelled. NO CALL MEANS NO FLIGHT.
A: PM / SUNSET FLIGHT - In the case of the PM Flight, we will call you at approximately 1PM the day of your flight to make final arrangements (ie. final weather briefing, meeting time and answering last minute questions). We will want you to arrive for your flight at least 2.5 hours prior to sunset. For the PM Flight, we will call you either way.

Q: What if we do not show up for our scheduled balloon flight?
A: We get very few great ballooning days here in the midwest. If we want to be efficient in our operations, we have to be in the air with a full basket on each flight. IF YOU DON’T SHOW UP FOR YOUR SCHEDULED FLIGHT WE WILL VOID YOUR CERTIFICATE AND YOU WILL LOSE YOUR DOWN PAYMENT.
Q: What if we need to cancel or reschedule our flight?
A: We require our guests to cancel their reservation at least 48 hours ahead of their scheduled flight to allow us an opportunity to fill the basket for that cancelled time slot. If you cancel within the 48 hour window, your certificate can be declared “void” by LGB management.
Q: Why does the Lake Geneva Balloon Company cancel flights?
A: After we’ve scheduled a balloon flight, the only reason we cancel a flight is due to weather conditions that aren’t safe for flying...and that’s it.
Q: How many times can I expect a weather cancellation before I get my flight in?
A: While some of our guests are able to make their balloon flight on their first opportunity, many of our guests are cancelled several times due to “unsafe weather” for ballooning. The unsafe weather conditions might not be readily apparent to the untrained, but your pilot always has your safety in his mind. On average, guests are cancelled due to weather issues 3-4 times before they take their flight.
